Meredith Bettenhauser
Meredith's practice area is criminal defense and litigation. Meredith is a native New Yorker, having lived in Queens and now residing in Long Island. After attaining her Undergraduate Degree in Finance and Business Management at Fordham University in 2002, Meredith received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Hofstra University School of Law.
While at Hofstra, Meredith was active in Moot Court, the Criminal Justice Clinic, and served as an editor of the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal. Her experience handling criminal cases began during her third year of law school, as a member of the Criminal Justice Clinic, was fueled by her passion for defending the civil rights of individuals.
Since being admitted to the Bar in 2006, Meredith has worked in both public service and in private practice. Meredith joined the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County in 2005 and was a Senior Criminal Trial Attorney at that firm until June 2009. While there, Meredith was lead counsel in over 5,000 felony and misdemeanor criminal cases including, assaults, DWI's, robberies, larcenies, sexual assaults, burglaries, and economic crimes. In June 2009, Meredith began representing clients for Raiser & Kenniff, specializing in criminal defense and litigation.
Meredith is an active member of the Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association, the Nassau County Women's Bar Association, and the New York State Defender's Association. Meredith is also a board member of the Nassau Women's Bar Foundation and has been published in the New York Law Journal and Hofstra Law Women. |
